Helpful Hints

It is important to remember professionalism no matter what level you're at in the job process. Here are some tips that tend to be overlooked:
  • Clean up your email address.
Emails like "hotnsexy2121" or "im-a-gmoney" are NOT appropriate email addresses to use when sending out resumes or getting in contact with companies. Employers are looking for candidates that can be professional even before the first interview.
  • Make sure your contact information is up to date.
Employers don't have time to track you down. There are numerous others candidates to choose from. If an employer cannot get in contact with you, even if you're the best candidate for a position, you're out of luck.
  • Dress for the job.
Everyone knows the job interview dress code; dark suite and neutral blouse or button down. Sometimes this may not be the best option depending on the position you're interviewing for. Knowing the atmosphere of a company gives you a little more freedom or restriction when dressing for an interview.
  • Unscented is the smell of success.
Using scented products (perfume/cologne, lotion, hair gel, etc.) can be worn, but don't over do it. You don't want the only thing an employer remembers about you to be your overwhleming smell.
  • Save your interviewer's phone number!!
When you call an employer, immediately make a contact in your phone for the employer, so when they call you back you don't answer with "What up bro?".
  • Follow up first.
"I'll be in contact soon", doesn't mean to wait to follow up with an employer till they contact you. Within 24 hours of the interview, a thank you letter should be sent. Remember to personalize it, be enthusiastic, and reiterate your expertise and past successes.
