The recession is over, so why are you still unemployed? Yes, the unemployment rate has decreased by .3% (down from 10%). Even though this is true, there are thousands still suffering and unemployed.
According to the Wall Street Journal, some jobs won't return. Some are the result of the advent of technology, like iTunes or digital cameras. Others are resulting from high paychecks. Companies are still working with limited funds and can only pay so many people the big bucks.
For the 9.7% unemployed, unemployment benefits only last for so long. Unfortunately only about 6 months. For those who have been unemployed for longer, they may feel the grind and burden of trying to find another job. The key is not to become distressed!
The key to success is all about your strategy.
Set goals.
Doing so keeps you focused, whether in the short or long term. For example a goal regarding the number of resumes you send out per week. Achieving these goals makes you feel accomplished and betters your chance of finding a job.
Create a log tracking the number of applications, cover letters, and resumes sent out, companies applied for, and phone calls placed to the company and who you spoke with. This makes follow up much easier. Only contact those who seemed interested or you couldn't get in touch with.
Don't dry out those savings!
Even though there is little to no more coming into your pocket, it is important to keep a majority of those savings. Getting a part-time job is the best way to still keep a paycheck coming in while you keep looking for a full-time position.
Unemployment is difficult for anyone. Its important to not let is get the best of you. Good luck to all the job seekers out there!
