Working your way up in a company is hard work (no matter what position)! What some don't realize is that the hard work doesn't stop there. Not only do you need to transition into your new position, you need to remember to keep trying and learning. "How to Transition into Management" gives tips to those promoted to management, but the transition into management isn't so different from other positions. You have proven that you're the best at one position. That doesn't mean you will be now.
Get to know your co-workers.
The best way to know what it takes to succeed in your new position is by getting to know your new co-workers! Obviously they know what it takes to succeed in that higher position . Pick their brain. Not only will you be learning more about the position from their personal experience, but you'll be getting to know who you will be working with. If you get along with the others in your field, doing well at what you do will be easy.
Do research. Ask questions. Ask for help.
Don't assume that because you got that promotion, you don't or won't need help. There is always room for continued learning and growth. No one knows everything there is regarding any specific employment field or position. You will grow as an employee, as well as , impress your boss and/or superiors with your willingness to admit when you need help. Also, practices and trends are always changing. Remember to try and change and grow with them.
Increase your experience outside the office.
Don't fully rely on gaining field experience in the office. There are plenty of ways outside of the 9-5. Volunteer to participate in related events, discussions, or classes. Any opportunity is a good opportunity.
