The workplace has been through some major changes over the last 3 years. Hiring trends have been dramatically changing not only on how companies are hiring and how people are finding jobs, but on the type of employment as well.
In April, CareerBuilder predicted some new hiring trends for the second quarter of 2010, with many, if not all, becoming reality.
Contract workers. Companies have not fully recovered from the recession and mass layoffs. Contract, or freelance, workers are the solution for companies looking to fill the productivity and staffing gaps. Job seekers need not be concerned about this type of employment because they will still be building out their resume.
Internship opportunities. Companies have been increasing the number of internship opportunities. Whether they are paid or unpaid, they are a position that offers experience when experience it at little to nothing, especially for recent college graduates. Internships may result in a full-time, paid position.
Social media positions. Job seekers with social media expertise are standing out above the rest. Social media has become a serious marketing strategy for companies. Those with specific knowledge in Twitter, Facebook, blogging, and more can become a pivotal position for companies.
Bilingual staff. Over the years, companies have slowly been moving over seas with smaller branches stay in the United States. Speaking another language not only can help company relations with other companies, but create a position for you!
