New job-hunting trend?

Are you unemployed and eager to get back to the working world? Have you been sending out your resume with no responses? Not know what to do next? Well... It's time to get proactive!

With numerous unemployed giving up on their job search, others believe that extreme times call for extreme measures.

CNN.com recently released - Extreme job-hunting tactics: What you need to know.
An unemployed IT executive wrote and posted a press release online regarding his great skill set and how he could fix broken IT departments. The goal - spark the interest of executives, not HR.

This unthinkable, and to some outlandish, "stunt" was not for the purpose of gaining attention, as is was to showcase a unique and advanced skill set.

It has been said time and time again - to find a job, you have to sell yourself. It's about highlighting your best skills and character on paper and then in person.

What extreme measures would you take to sell yourself to a potential employer or even just get that first interview?

Don't wait for them to contact you!
Remember, recruiters and other hiring staff have other things on their plate. If you have not heard back, contact them. An email politely reminding them of your resume and your interest in the position. If there is no response within the week, don't be afraid to have a followup call.

Send a colorful Cover Letter.
Cover letters and resumes being to get tedious to read through. Make it easy for them... Highlight - phrases and sentences focusing on your qualifications and past experiences relevant to the position. But be sure to include a paragraph explaining the highlights!

Follow their social media.
Start following and commenting on the company's social media sites - Twitter, Facebook, blog posts - to show your interest in the company. This is a great way to network with the company without a face to face conversation.
